Copy trading, explained without the hype.

Copy trading lets you link your own broker account to the live VaultFX strategy. Trades are replicated automatically, in proportion to the amount you allocate. Before you start, here is how it works, who it is for, and what can go wrong.

Affiliate disclosure: this is a referral link. VaultFX may be compensated by Vantage if you open an account through it.

The mechanics

What actually happens when you copy.

The strategy trades

VaultFX runs its rules-based strategy on a live Vantage account, the "signal" or "strategy" account.

The broker replicates

Vantage's copy-trading platform opens and closes matching positions in your account, scaled to your allocation and settings.

You keep control

Your funds stay in your Vantage account. You can change the allocation, stop copying or close positions at any time.

Your results will differ from the strategy account. Allocation size, minimum lot sizes, the moment you start copying, spreads, slippage, swap fees and any performance or subscription fees all affect your outcome. Two followers of the same strategy can have different results.

Getting started

Four steps, at your own pace.

Learn the basics

Read this page, the risk disclosure and the copy-trading module of the Academy.

Open a Vantage account

Register with Vantage and complete their identity verification. Vantage decides whether you are eligible.

Select the strategy

In the Vantage copy-trading area, open strategy 1483667 and review its statistics, history and fees.

Allocate and monitor

Choose an amount you can afford to lose, set your copy options and check your account regularly.

Account opening, eligibility, minimum amounts, fees and copy settings are determined by Vantage and may change. Always check the current terms on the Vantage platform.

It may suit you if

  • You understand that Forex and CFD trading is high-risk and speculative.
  • You want exposure to a systematic strategy without building one yourself.
  • You only allocate money you could lose entirely without affecting your finances.
  • You are willing to review the account regularly and accept losing periods.
  • You are an adult and copy trading is permitted where you live.

It is not suitable if

  • You need the money for living costs, debt repayment or an emergency fund.
  • You are looking for a guaranteed or regular income.
  • You would be unable to tolerate a substantial drawdown.
  • You do not understand leverage, margin or how a stop-loss works.
  • You are a resident of a country where copy trading or CFDs are restricted.

Risks

What can go wrong.

These are the main risks of copy trading. They are not exhaustive; please read our full risk disclosure and the broker's own risk warnings.

01

Market and leverage risk

Leveraged positions magnify losses as well as gains. Fast markets can move past stop-loss levels.

02

Strategy risk

A strategy that worked in the past can stop working. Historical results do not predict future returns.

03

Replication risk

Delays, partial fills, lot rounding and different prices mean your trades will not match the strategy exactly.

04

Platform and broker risk

Outages, connectivity issues or changes to the broker's terms can affect copying. VaultFX does not control the broker.

05

Cost risk

Spreads, commissions, swaps and any profit-share fees reduce your net result.

06

Behavioural risk

Stopping during a drawdown or increasing size after a winning run often leads to worse outcomes than the strategy itself.

Common questions

Copy trading FAQ

Does VaultFX have access to my money?

No. Your funds are held by Vantage in your own account. VaultFX cannot deposit, withdraw or transfer money from your account.

How much do I need to start?

Vantage sets the minimum amounts for copy trading and they can change. Check the current minimum on the strategy page. More important than the minimum is the maximum you could afford to lose.

Can I stop copying at any time?

Yes. You can stop copying through the Vantage platform. Depending on your settings, open positions are either closed or left for you to manage.

What does VaultFX earn?

VaultFX may receive a share of fees through the Vantage copy-trading programme and referral compensation when clients open an account through our link. The applicable fees are shown on the Vantage strategy page before you start copying.

Is this investment advice?

No. VaultFX does not assess your personal situation and does not recommend that you copy any strategy. If you are unsure, consult an independent, qualified financial adviser.
